Guglielmo Micheli (1866 - 1926) was born in Livorno, to a modest family. He trained here with the painter Natale Betti, and then moved to Florence in 1888. Here he attended the Academy of Fine Arts and the Scuola Libera del Nudo of Giovanni Fattori, with whom he formed a solid and lasting bond.
His first works were strongly influenced by the master Fattori, as in the two "Portraits of his Wife" (1889; 1890). In the 90s he sought his own path by tackling different subjects, always starting from the analysis of reality and the effects of light, but communicating the profound feeling of things. He maintained close epistolary relationships with other painters such as Giuseppe Pellizza da Volpedo, whom he met at Fattori. Between 1910 and 1920, he used even quicker and more synthetic touches of color.
He dedicated himself a lot to teaching both drawing in the Technical Schools in Livorno and painting in his studio, which hosted numerous young talents, including Llewelyn Lloyd and Amedeo Modigliani.
He participated in numerous exhibitions, including in Livorno, where he participated in the important 1st Livorno Art Exhibition at Bagni Pancaldi in 1912.
He died in his city at the age of 59.
