Nino Migliori Biography

Nino Migliori (1926 - ) was born in Bologna in 1926 and is the most authoritative and multifaceted Italian researcher in the field of photography. He has always accompanied a production close to the so-called Neorealism with conceptual research within the most advanced side of European Informal, carrying out one of the most widespread and interesting paths of European image culture. Different lines of research have been intertwined in his artistic production from the beginning, but experimentation is the fundamental trait that has always characterized his work. He began photographing in 1948, alternating neorealist and formalist photography with experiments and research, based on techniques invented and refined by himself, which led him to expressions often similar to the events of painting (such as the informal) and to conceptual experiences . In the 1950s, he was in fact a friend of Tancredi and Emilio Vedova, frequented Peggy Guggenheim's house in Venice, while in Bologna he became close to artists such as Vasco Bendini, Vittorio Mascalchi, Luciano Leonardi. In 1977 the CSAC (Communication Studies and Archive Center) of the University of Parma dedicated its first major anthological exhibition to him, curated by its founder, Arturo Carlo Quintavalle. Professor of History of Photography at the University of Parma between 1978 and 1987, his works are preserved in important public and private collections including the Mambo in Bologna, the MoMA and the MET in New York and the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris . In 2015 he developed the photography atelier at the MAST nursery school in Bologna and for several years accompanied children and teachers to discover the photographic medium as a form of writing.
