Monti Gianemilio & Piero & Anna Biography
The brothers Gianemilio (Milan, 1920 - 2002) and Pietro Monti (Corenno Plinio, 1922 - Milan, 1990) and Anna Bertarini (Milan, 1923), Gianemilio's wife, established a partnership in 1948, immediately after obtaining a degree in Architecture at the Polytechnic of Milan. From 1954 to 1960 the studio members were part of the MSA and the INU; the two brothers were also founding members of the ADI. During the post-war reconstruction period, various residential buildings were built, including the buildings in via Calvi (1949), corso Sempione 38 and 81 (1955), viale Papiniano-via Calco (with Enrico Freyrie, 1956). The Villa in Piona, near Como (1952), was published in numerous international magazines. The three architects also designed two council houses in Bellano (1954-55) and participated in the construction of the INA-Casa Monte Olimpino neighborhoods in Como (1957), Vialba (1958), Feltre (1958) and Gallaratese (1960) in Milan. I Monti also worked on industrial design for De Padova (1955), Stildomus (1964), Kartell (1959-65), Fontana Arte (1972-76), Olivari (1970 and 1976). Among the main works of the Sixties are the buildings in Via Carducci (1966) and Corso Magenta (1967): in this period the Montis established a privileged relationship with SNAM, for which they designed buildings in San Donato Milanese and in the Gargano; in 1985 they designed an office building in via Olona, completed in 1999. The studio is still active. This information is taken from: "The architectural archives in Lombardy. Census of sources", edited by GL Ciagà, published in 2003.
