Francesco Antonio Peruzzini Biography
Antonio Francesco Peruzzini was a well-known Italian painter, born in Ancona in 1643 and died in Milan on 20 August 1724. He belonged to a family of artists, therefore it is probable that Antonio received his first painting lessons within the family. Subsequently, Peruzzini moved from one city to another to further his studies and to begin his professional activity. Specializing in landscape painting, in 1663 he was in Rome, where he sent some paintings to Turin for Charles Emmanuel II of Savoy. In this period he created two paintings, namely two Marines in a storm, for the Roman musician Giulio Cavalletti, which he donated to the Holy House of Loreto in 1689: they can still be found in the city museum today.
In the following years, in the first decade of the eighteenth century, he moved to Tuscany, where he created works for Ferdinando de' Medici and for other noble families close to the grand ducal court.
Antonio Francesco Peruzzini was a leading figure in landscape painting of the 17th-18th centuries. Initially influenced by Salvator Rosa, over time Peruzzini developed a free interpretation of the movements and colors typical of Rococo. By using more lively and bright color ranges, the artist managed to make the atmosphere more pleasant and lighter. Antonio Francesco Peruzzini died in Milan on 20 August 1724.
