Giovanni Pettucco Biography
Giovanni Petucco, son of Nove, a town located in the province of Vicenza, was born on 29 August 1910. From a young age, he began working in the brickyards of his city to be able to afford evening painting courses. After graduating from the Art Institute of Nove, under the guidance of Roberto Rosati, he decided to continue his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice. In 1942, having finished his studies in Venice, he returned to Nove where he found employment as a teacher at the School of Ceramics, directed by Andrea Parini. Shortly afterwards, in 1945, together with Andrea Tolio and Gino Cuman, he founded the "Petucco & Tolio" factory for the production of artistic ceramics. The company headquarters were located in via Molini 44. The manufacturing furnaces gave life to ornaments, lamp bases and decorative panels with both traditional and modern features. Furthermore, "Petucco & Tolio" also produced a series of stylized characters that depicted priests and prelates in an ironic and popular manner. In parallel with his activity in manufacturing, Giovanni Petucco created several unique works, often of a religious nature, which he presented in various editions of the Venice Art Biennials and the Milan Triennials. Death struck Giovanni Petucco in 1961, in his beloved Nove. In 1962, an exhibition was organized in his honor at the Istituto d'Arte di Nove to remember and celebrate his talent and dedication to the art of ceramics.
