Bruno Pulga Biography

Bruno Pulga (1922 – 1993) After his initial training at the Liceo Artistico of Bologna, he followed architecture courses at the universities of Venice and Florence, but the presence of Giorgio Morandi, at the chair of engraving and of Virgilio Guidi, responsible for teaching painting led him to complete his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna. He made his first trip to Paris in 1950 and after an exhibition period in Turin and Bologna, thanks to the critic Marco Valsecchi, in 1956, he met Gino Ghiringhelli, the founder of Il Milione, and began to exhibit with the group of young artists who worked around at the Milanese gallery. In 1957 he worked for six months in London, where the following year he held a solo exhibition at the Matthiesen Gallery. Participates in the Italy-France exhibition in Turin. He leaves for Germany and stays for a few months in Berlin, then in Paris. He decides to move to the French capital, where he settles already in 1961. Here he becomes friends with numerous artists: Music, Gischia, Hartung, Pignon, Barbarigo, with some of whom he exhibits on several occasions, under the group banner " painters of Paris". Having reached full maturity, in full possession of original and powerful linguistic resources, Pulga can now express other contents, taking up the challenge of finding new and corresponding methods of communication. The first solo exhibition opens in Paris, at the Facchetti Gallery. The French government purchases a painting for public collections. He began to participate, upon invitation, in the editions of the Salon de Mai, the important annual event that brings the attention of professionals and the general public back to Paris. In 1971 he participated in the Sao Paulo Biennial in Brazil and 1972 was the year of great international consecration: Jacques Lassaigne presented Bruno Pulga in an anthology of eighty works at the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris and was invited to the Biennial in Venice in 1978. The already ancient relationship with German critics and the public was strengthened by the solo exhibition organized at the Staatliche Galerie für Moderne Kunst in Munich in 1982.
