Domenico Roberti Artwork valuations, appraisals and auction estimates

Domenico Roberti, born in Rome in 1642, is commonly considered by critics to be a follower of Giovanni Ghisolfi. The information at our disposal about the life of this artist is rather scarce, however from the sources we know that he was a member of the congregation of the Virtuosi of the Pantheon in 1678 and subsequently became its rector in 1704. Domenico Roberti, born in Rome in 1642, is commonly considered by critics to be a follower of Giovanni Ghisolfi. The information at our disposal about the life of this artist is rather scarce, however from the sources we know that he was a member of the congregation of the Virtuosi of the Pantheon in 1678 and subsequently became its rector in 1704. As for his works, only those with signature are considered certain, while many others appear to have disappeared today, and have only recently reappeared on the antiquarian market. In 1688, Roberti was appointed member of the Accademia di San Luca. He is known above all as a ruinist, although in the documents relating to the works belonging to the Spada Gallery collection these paintings are referred to as "Perspectives". From the sources it appears that Cardinal Fabrizio Spada owned several perspectives of the artist, including a pair that are still part of his private collection today, purchased in 1703 for the price of 100 scudi. Domenico Roberti died in Rome in 1707.
