Oscar Saccorotti Biography
Oscar Saccorotti (1898-1986) was a contemporary Italian painter, landscape painter, portraitist and engraver of great importance. Born in Rome, Saccorotti moved to Genoa at a young age, where he met the decorators Bifoli and Cavallari, students of Gino Coppedè, who influenced his artistic training.
Saccorotti specialized in the creation of figures and still lifes, experimenting with new techniques and becoming increasingly famous nationally and internationally. He exhibited his works in important artistic events such as the Rome Quadrennials and the Venice Biennials, in which he participated from 1930 to 1950.
Traveling in Spain and Portugal, Saccorotti expanded his artistic knowledge and his fame earned him the nomination of academician of merit at the prestigious Accademia Ligustica di Belle Arti in Genoa.
From 1976, Saccorotti retired to a solitary life in Megli, a hamlet of Recco (Genoa), where, in a farmers' house, he created his last paintings. He died in 1986 at the age of 88, leaving an important mark on contemporary Italian art
