Orazio Samacchini was an Italian painter of the late Renaissance and Mannerism, active in Rome, Parma and Bologna, his hometown.
He was a pupil of Pellegrino Tibaldi, his first activity is still little known, it took place between Pamra and Bologna. In 1563 he went to Rome, where he decorated the Apostolic Palace and the Sala Regia of Pope Pius IV with Taddeo and Federico Zuccari. Upon returning to Bologna he executed a good number of altarpieces, such as the Madonna and Saints in Santa Maria Maggiore. Starting from 1570 his style became more monumental and bombastic, combining the influences of Giorgio Vasari and Pellegrino Tibaldi. In Parma he created frescoes in the left transept of the Cathedral, in Cremona he painted the frescoes Virtue, The Prophets and The Angels in the church of Sant'Abbondio. He is considered one of the most important exponents of Bolognese mannerism of the second half of the sixteenth century. In 1572 he was elected director of the Company of Painters.
