Furio Santini Biography

Furio Santini, nicknamed Sanfurio, was born in Cortona in 1918 and grew up in Florence, the city where he resided until 1947 before moving to the United States. Once he returned to Europe, he studied painting in Paris between 1951 and 1958 and attended the Brera Academy in Milan. He also participated in collective exhibitions organized by the Permanent Society. Throughout his life he produced very different pictorial works both in terms of the subject and the technique used. However, in all his works we can identify possible characteristic traits, such as a propensity for figuration, even in apparently non-figurative works, and a sort of restlessness that always pushed him to go beyond the results achieved, never becoming fossilized in predefined schemes. In addition to painting, he also began writing at a very young age, debuting with a one-act play at the Piccolo Teatro in Florence and then collaborating with various newspapers in Italy and abroad. In Milan he published, for Colibrì editions, the novels "Il tempo di Lapo" in 1994, "A mistake of chance" in 1995 and "The journey continues" in 1998. Santini died in Milan in 2004.
