Franz T. Sartori (1927 - 2000) Although Franz Sartori was best known as a sculptor, he was also a talented furniture designer who produced mid-century modern armchairs, sofas, and other pieces. Sartori was born Teodoro Antonio Franz Sartori in Milan in 1927. His most fruitful period of furniture design was in the 1960s and 1970s. During that time, Sartori collaborated with Italian manufacturer Flexform on armchairs, living room sets, sofas and lounge chairs featuring soft cushions, geometric silhouettes and wavy legs. Sartori's seat was extremely comfortable and was upholstered in fine leather, soft velvet or luxurious bouclé. Additionally, he worked with the furniture company Cristal Arte on glass, lacquer and crystal wall mirrors arranged in layers of concentric circles. During his career as a designer, Sartori participated in numerous exhibitions and received numerous awards, including first prize for design at the Trieste International Fair Competition, the Golden Lateran Cross in the Vatican in 1968, the Europrize 'Honor for Design in 1970 and La Madonnina International Award in Milan in 1973.
