Gregorio Sciltian, (Grigorij Ivanovič Šil´tjan) Italian painter, was born in Nachičevan', near Rostov-na-Donu (Armenia). He exhibited his first works, of a cubo-futurist nature, in collective exhibitions, but in 1919 he left his hometown, frightened by the October Revolution, moving first to Constantinople then to Vienna and Paris. In Berlin in 1923, he continued, initially alone, towards Italy, his "promised land", where he visited Naples, Florence and Liguria, to settle with his wife in Rome where he exhibited for the first time at the Bragaglia Art Gallery and assiduously frequented the museums and churches of the capital. He took part in the Venice Biennale in 1926. From 1927 to 1932 he lived with his wife in Paris. During his second Italian stay, the painter began to frequent the De Chirico brothers again. In 1947 he returned to live in Milan and, with the aim of promoting an art linked to the figurative tradition, he founded, with Pietro Annigoni, Antonio Bueno, Xavier Bueno, Alfredo Serri, Giovanni Acci, Carlo Guarienti, the "Modern painters of reality" movement . He continued his artistic journey uninterrupted in the following years, receiving commissions and participating in exhibitions in public and private institutions.
