Cesarina Seppi Biography
Cesarina Seppi was born in Trento in 1919 and graduated from the Liceo Artistico of Venice in 1939, after having attended the Teacher's Institute. In the lagoon city, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts under the guidance of Guido Cadorin in the painting course, obtaining his diploma in 1942. The artist began exhibiting his works in 1939, participating in the trade union exhibitions of Venice Tridentina. In 1946, he collaborated in the creation of the Circolo Artistico del Cavallo Azzurro together with other Trentino artists.
Between 1949 and 1950, he created the mosaic decoration for the atrium of the Trento station, designed by the architect Angiolo Mazzoni. In the 1950s, the artist undertook some study trips to France and Germany. His essentially figurative research, in the 1960s, was enriched with different materials, such as sand and mosaic tiles, which enriched the pictorial surface and opened the way to an increasingly abstract reading of reality.
Since 1968, Seppi has been using acrylic colors and, a few years later, after having used materials such as brass and aluminium, he dedicated himself to the design of steel sculptures with glass insertions which place a strong accent of interest in light . Since 1966, Seppi has been part of the Accademia degli Agiati. In 1972, the artist was awarded the "Drappo di San Vigilio" and is a member of the Accademia del Buonconsiglio (now Accademia degli Accesi). Since 1986, Seppi has been a member of the scientific committee of "Le Tre Venezie", the Triveneto Center for Culture and Visual Arts.
Since 1980, the artist has created numerous monumental sculptures, including the "Solar Totem" for Palazzo Trentini and the "Lunar Flower" for Piazza Cesare Battisti in Trento.
