Guy Seradour Biography
Guy Jean Louis Seradour, born in 1922 in Etaples, began his artistic training at the Fine Arts in 1939, but decided to follow a self-taught path, leaving the Academy after just three months. His work was influenced by the cities in which he lived and worked, such as Paris, Cannes and Deauville. At the age of 18 he organized his first exhibition in 1940 at the Galerie Romanet in Algeria. In 1955, during an exhibition at the Bernheim-Jeune in Paris, he received extremely positive reviews for sober landscape paintings, somewhat miserable characters and beautiful portraits.
In addition to his solo exhibitions, Guy Seradour participated in many important salons including the 'Salon d'Automne', 'Peintres Témoins de leur Temps', 'Comparaisons', 'Terres Latines', 'Société Nationale des Beaux Arts', 'Artistes Français' and the 'Salon du Design et de la Peinture à l'Eau'. He was also very active abroad, participating in exhibitions including the Salons of French Artists at the Hermitage in Leningrad and at the Pushkin Museum in Moscow in 1975. Guy Seradour has been the subject of many solo exhibitions around the world, including at Brussels in 1966, Denver in the USA in 1968 and Tokyo in Japan in 1969. Seradour's work can be found in many private collections, and in 1965 the Museum of Modern Art in Paris purchased his work "Le Lampiste".
During his lifetime, Guy Seradour received numerous awards, including the "Knight of Arts and Letters" award. Since 1980, his works have radiated silence, serenity and mystery. Today, Guy Seradour's works can be found in museums around the world.
