Rino Sernaglia Biography

Rino Sernaglia was born in 1936 in Montebelluna. He studied painting and mosaic at the Art Institute of Venice and in 1959 he moved to Milan where he collaborated as a designer for a large series of cultural publications and for Italian television. In 1965 he began a series of study trips abroad which will help him to deal with the latest artistic trends and to definitively overcome an art of naturalistic and evocative inspiration in favor of geometric abstractionism. Sernaglia thus became a pioneer of this research, conceiving ingenious creative cycles which from the end of the 1960s, with the "purification cycles", then passing through the "positive-negative" ones of the 1970s, continue until today. His research leads him to define three-dimensional paths of white, mechanical light, organized internally by a passive space, delimited at its edges by a virtual cornice, but also indulging in more vividly chromatic and kinetic exercises. His aesthetic is rigorously rational and is based on the shape of the polygonal square and kinetic movement, suggesting the invention of dynamic, rhythmic, multiplied forms. In 1990 he joined the international movement Arte madì and the cultural association Arte Struktura, participating in numerous exhibitions and initiatives on these themes. Today he boasts the achievement of numerous prizes and recognitions, and his works are exhibited in numerous national and international public spaces.
