Elio Sorci Biography

Elio Sorci is an Italian photographer born in Rome in 1932 and recognized as the pioneer of photographic photography of American jet set celebrities. His art focused on paparazzi photography, executed with incredible naturalness. Sorci made his debut as a photojournalist as a young man, initially working for a newspaper as he followed in the footsteps of his mentor, Ivo Mandolesi. His attention was turned to photography for scoop purposes, and so much so that, in the Roman quadrilateral of Piazza IX Novembre, he founded his own photographic agency. His skill lay in the ability to follow famous people for entire days in order to immortalise unique shots, and this made him particularly relevant throughout the 1950s and 1960s. Illness forced him to interrupt his work at just 43 years old, but the immense photographic legacy he left on the Dolce Vita and the economic boom tell the emblematic nature of his work aimed at bearing witness to Roman life in that period. Sorci was a leader in the field of photography thanks to his strategic mind, independent spirit and unparalleled thirst for adventure. His essential images portray a world that is often vulgar and full of superficiality, but at the same time exciting, compelling and seductive for the public.
