Beppi Spolaor Biography
Beppe Spolaor was born in 1910. From a young age he showed a great interest in music and painting. As a teenager, he attended the studios of prominent artists such as Prosdocimi, Milesi and, above all, Vittorio Tessari, active in the Brenta Riviera area. Subsequently, he met Ettore Tito and carefully studied his work. His artistic training was based on experimentation in the workshop through the copying of photographic or pictorial models, without neglecting painting from life.
Spolaor thus acquired the skills necessary to respond to the first local requests, which mainly focused on portraiture. However, in 1936, the artist felt the need to give greater systematicity and completeness to his preparation, thanks to the help of the families of his clients, and so he enrolled at the Istituto Statale d'Arte of Venice, also obtaining the qualification to teaching.
Meanwhile, Italy entered the war and Spolaor, exempted from military service, supported his family thanks to his work as a teacher at the Bern Institute and other schools. In this period, the artist developed an intensified pictorial activity, now more mature, which ranged over a vast range of subjects which, in addition to the portrait - the pillar of his production - and the landscape, also included still lifes, animals, scenes of life daily and sacred themes.
In the 1940s, the artist concentrated his attention on a systematic exhibition activity, which began in Venice and Padua, and then extended to other cities such as Verona, Stresa, Brescia, Turin and Milan. Added to this was his activity as a lecturer on artistic topics.
However, in 1948, Spolaor, tormented by a sense of closure, decided to change his environment and, taking advantage of his desire to make a fortune quickly, moved to Brazil. After preparing everything necessary, he embarked for Brazil in February 1949, but died in Sao Paulo a year later.
