Alessandro Staffa Biography
Alessandro Staffa, known by the pseudonym AlePOP, is an established cartoonist, illustrator, designer, painter and creator of graphic projects for companies, cultural associations, art exhibitions, magazines and musical groups. Since 1982, he has demonstrated constant graphic research that stands out from academicism and compromise, defining his art as "Sgourd art". Despite this repellent nickname, AlePOP has collaborated with media publications of all kinds, such as AlterAlter (Rizzoli), TuttoMusica (Mondadori), Frigidaire, Rumore, Musica di Repubblica, Il Cuore, Lupo Alberto Almanacco, Agenda BE YOU 2010, Odeon Tv, QOOB TV/MTV, Il Friday di Repubblica, Il Manifesto, La Repubblica XL, Il Male di Vauro & Vincino, Rizla+, Brado Design, LILA ONLUS, Montura and Upload Sounds Festival.
In addition to its expert exhibited production, AlePOP has also supported a parallel promotional activity for other artists, organizing special exhibitions dedicated to independent visual art with various acronyms, in particular AgitKOM Lab. The last solo exhibition dates back to 2010, " SgorbioArt - show with strange comics and various messes", held at the Spazio Nadir in Vicenza, simultaneously with the exhibition that marked the passing of the baton from AgitPOP to AgitKOM, hosted in the same period in the Magic Garden of the summer Busnelli. AlePOP's creative philosophy has always maintained a satirical and international attitude that states: "zero ideas, less content", in full coherence with his attitude as a convinced old atheist.
Currently holed up in his home-studio in Bassano del Grappa, AlePOP continues to create stories and characters that interact with the present, always remaining faithful to his artistic vision and without giving in to feel-good tendencies, political correctness, party flattery or the result easy. While waiting for the next exhibition, it is possible to admire the graphic work of AlepPOP through its irreverent creations that omnivore spreads daily through the "network of global magnitude".
