Franco Tardonato Biography
Franco Tardonato was born in Varese in 1938. In 1961 he made his debut in his hometown with a solo exhibition at the Galleria Teatro Impero. Starting in 1971, he participated in solo and group exhibitions throughout Italy, receiving awards for his art. He received the gold medal at the V, VI and VII National Graphics Exhibition, and the President of the Chamber of Deputies awarded him another award for his artistic commitment.
In 1975, Tardonato won the Marc'Aurelio Prize in Rome. His works have been exhibited at the Galleria Nazionale di Grafica in Naples, as well as in several art galleries in Europe, including Brussels, Zurich, Lugano and St. Moritz. They are also present in some public collections in Italy, including the province of Milan and the municipalities of Milan, Bergamo, Legnano and Campobasso.
During the personal exhibitions held in Sicily, Tardonato received a plaque from the Prefect of Ragusa. Tardonato died in Varese in 1984. Posthumous exhibitions were organized in honor of his art by the Galleria La Giostra of Asti in the same year, by the Galleria Prevosti in 1995 and by the Chiostro of Voltorre in 1997.
Since 1994, the Art Award Homage to Tardonato for Youth Creativity has been named after him in memory of the artist. This award was created by his daughter Sara and his wife Dina.
