Piero Tredici Biography

Piero Tredici (1928 - 2011) was born in Sesto Fiorentino (Florence) in 1928. Painter, designer, engraver; he began painting in the late 1950s. From 1940 to 1943, he attended the sculpture school of the Porta Romana Art Institute in Florence as a pupil of Maestro Bruno Innocenti, as he was fascinated by the marble sculptures of those craftsmen who, custodians of an almost thousand-year-old technique, hewed with mastery and uncommon skills the tombstones and statuettes for the local municipal cemetery of Sesto Fiorentino. The first solo exhibition was ordered in 1960 at the Galleria Nuova Corrente in Florence and in 1967 he arrived in Milan, with a solo exhibition at the Galleria L'Agrifoglio. In the following decades, he held exhibitions throughout Italy, in private galleries and public spaces: we remember the important anthology that the Municipality of Sesto Fiorentino dedicated to him between 1989 and 1990. From 1960 to 1965 his paintings mainly focused on urban suburbs or the extreme limits of the campaign; the favorite theme then becomes the man-machine relationship. He then tackles the series of "viewfinders", to continue with other strands of figuration: hidden crimes, hidden violence. In the 1980s he became interested in the study of Virgil and the interpretation of the Georgics, of which he always represents the most dramatic and tragic aspects. In the series of Prodigies and in the most recent creations, inspired by the Passion of Christ, an intense sense of death dominates.
