VALENTINI WALTER (Pergola, 1928) Valentini Walter is an Italian painter, sculptor and engraver, known internationally in the field of graphics and engraving. He began to establish himself in the 1980s especially with abstract works on wood, characterized by a particular sense of geometry and proportions. He was influenced by various currents: Russian avant-garde (constructivism), metaphysical painting, which characterizes the architecture of De Chirico's paintings and fifteenth-century research on harmony, proportion and perspective of spaces and forms. It was above all the latter that had a profound impact on his artistic activity. The artist trained in Rome in the first location of the Convitto and subsequently in Milan, in the second location of the Convitto, before arriving in Urbino, at the Book School of the Institute of Fine Arts, specializing in lithography. It was precisely in Urbino that his passion for engraving was born, creating almost 200 graphic works, especially drypoints and etchings. In 1955 he settled permanently in Milan, where in 1974 he organized his first debut exhibition in the Galleria Vinciana. Valentini has also been involved in the illustration of literary texts, creating actual artist's books and participating in "The artist and the book in twentieth-century Italy" at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1992. He has also participated in important prestigious personal exhibitions in various Italian and foreign galleries and museums such as: the great anthological exhibition dedicated to him by the Municipality of Rimini at Palazzo dell'Arengo in 1989, the exhibitions in his native Municipality of Pergola in 1993 and 2000, the anthological exhibition at the Palazzo Crepadona in Belluno in 1997, the exhibitions in Boston, Stockholm, Hamburg, Cologne, New York, Aspen, Tokyo, Munich, Regensburg, Vienna, Istanbul, Ankara, the personal exhibition at the Dionne Gallery in Paris in 1995-1996, in which graphics, works on paper and on board never exist separately. Of particular importance in Valentini's artistic career are the graphic exhibitions, with their debut at the Biennale of Contemporary Italian Engraving in Venice (1955) or at the International Biennial of Ibiza and Listowel in 1982. Valentini also taught the art of engraving in "Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti" in Milan from 1983 to 1985, of which he was also Director.
