Renzo Zavanella Biography

Renzo Zavanella was born in Mantua in 1900 and obtained a diploma from the Higher School of Architecture of the Athenaeum in Lausanne in 1952. He began his professional activity in Milan in the early Thirties collaborating both with the studio of Gio Ponti and with Luciano Baldessari. He has worked with the major protagonists of Italian architectural and artistic culture such as Enrico Ciuti, Lucio Fontana, Raffaello Giolli, Giulio Minoletti, Giuseppe Pagano, Edoardo Persico and Agnoldomenico Pica. He specialized in interior architecture and temporary installations, finding ample space in the Milan Triennale and in the Milanese Trade Fair. After the Second World War he was one of the major protagonists of the Italian "economic miracle", designing the new spaces and objects symbolizing the society of mass consumption. He has concentrated his professional activity on various fronts, from exhibition architecture to interior design, from the nascent sector of industrial design to the study and creation of prototypes for typical homes and for buildings serving widespread mechanization, such as stations refueling and service stations. Renzo Zavanella died in Milan in 1988.
