Lot 138
The sideboard presented is part of the furniture of the apartment for Eng. Orazi in Milan that Zavanella designed and built between 1936 and 1938. For the interiors, the architect from Mantua avails himself of the collaboration of his artist friend Lucio Fontana who created the Signorina seduta located between the kitchen and the living room.
Here Zavanella mixes, in the same environment, accents of technological and threadlike minimalism with the plasticism of Fontana's statuary, thus ideally combining the two extremes: an abstract linearism and the informal of the Italo-Argentine artist. The treatment of the rosewood glossy black lacquer used for the furniture in the living area is indebted to the experience with Baldessari (in particular the furniture for the lawyer Mino Spadacini of 1932-1934), while the Camera della signorina is characterized by absolute whiteness of objects and curtains, almost simulating a hospital room where even the small tables for objects on the sides of the bed are reduced to minimal and ethereal tops in Securit glass. The piece of furniture in question acts as a minimalist background and counterpoint to the organicism of Fontana's sculpture.
The item is accompanied by the certificate of authenticity of the dell'archivio Renzo Zavanella, Milano.
