Department
Jonathan Giustini, a writer and journalist who has been traveling between print media, radio and television for thirty years, is the new head of the department which will inaugurate its first auction in February 2024. After many
published books ranging from music, cinema, contemporary art, the latest dedicated to Pino Pascali animator and cartoonist, entitled Intermezzo 23, puts his experience and knowledge of the world of comics and drawn art at the service of an innovative department which not only aims to be an important window for offers and sales, and thus for exchange, but also an journey of research and discovery within and beyond the boundaries of an art that today is a cultural bastion, a springboard for engaged experimentation. Important market resource.
In the department of comics will include comics, graphic novels, illustrated tables, mixed techniques, large and tiny format works,
collages, photographs, scraps and sketchbooks, pure drawings, in the name of what we enjoy calling still avant-garde.
Because we are in the realm of catalysis, because it is an art that accelerates or slows down, that cancels space and lives on our cooperation. Children as we are of the thought of Umberto Eco and Roland Barthes, in perennial search for mythical figures capable of speaking in emblems. An art with crossed destinies, also thinking of Calvino. An art
conceptual, even, where the word combines with the drawing. An infinite, serial art, as if very exclusive. And pure pleasure. And where it is still possible to understand Picasso while walking with Dick Tracy.
The Comics Department selects drawings, magazines and illustrations by the major Italian and international cartoonists. The department is among the few in Italy to attempt this kind of proposal, finding favor with collectors from all over the world.
