Department
Since 1988, the year the auction house was founded, the department of antiques, old paintings and the nineteenth century has been the main sector of interest, now also extended to other areas of research (modern art, oriental art, design, jewelery and watches). During the decade in which it is led by Giorgio Rusconi, the department has tried its hand at transforming the taste for collecting and today it presents itself with 4 annual auctions in April, June, October and December, offering works ranging from paintings to sculptures, from scientific objects to vintage silver. The customers, very selective and specialized, follow the proposed sales with interest, are international both institutional and private. Giorgio Rusconi, with a degree in arts and philosophy, has gained experience with periods abroad and passionate study in the field. The collection is carried out nationally and beyond and is presented in rich catalogs that best document the proposed works. The constant prerogative remains that of giving maximum availability and clarity of information to customers who decide to rely on capitoliumart. Among the most interesting adjudications are sales of works of important artistic and historical value by Angelo Inganni (View of the Brescia Market Square - auction 148 - lot 267 - sold for € 122,000.00), Alexandre Cabanel (The studio of Michelangelo, sold through private negotiation at the Fabre Museum in Montpellier), Cherubino Cornienti (Lodovico the Moor visits Leonardo Da Vinci while painting the Last Supper - auction 191 - lot 117 - sold for € 26,460.00), Gaspare Vanvitelli (Ideal view of the lake - auction 263 - lot 338 - sold for € 134,200.00), a landscape with rivers and boats with anonymous attribution from the 18th century which, estimated at 2,000 / 4,000 euros, produced 75,640.00 (auction 255 - lot 144) and a portrait of 17th century courtesan from a Venetian environment, estimated at 2500/4000 euros, who dropped the hammer at 51,200.00 euros (auction 242 - lot 253).
