Lot 194
Comparative literature: G. Conti and G. Cefariello Grosso, "La maiolica Cantagalli e le manifatture ceramiche fiorentine", 1990, p. 101 n° 170.
In the production repertoire of the Cantagalli factory, particular attention was paid to those decorative models called in the sales catalogs "of Rodhi" or "of Damascus" which recalled the phytmorphic and floral-geometric motifs of the sixteenth-century Turkish manufacture of Iznik. Inside the tableware sample album illustrated by the photographs of the I.D.E.A. of the Alinari brothers, among the "Rodhi" pieces there is a jug comparable to our example, but with the blue and red colors of the vegetable decorations alternating differently ("Boccia Rodhi" n° 170 in G. Conti and G. Cefariello Grosso, "La maiolica Cantagalli e le manifatture ceramiche fiorentine", 1990, p. 101).
