Lot 24
Signature lower right. Fortunato Depero Archive, Rovereto, authenticity certificate. Circa 1948. Small defects.
"From 1947 to 1949 Depero tried his second American card again and returned to New York with some initial difficulties. Then, thanks to an old friendship, he managed to find hospitality in a villa in Marry Hall, in the green countryside of Connecticut, and there for over a year and a half, until the autumn of 1949, he worked intensely drawing and painting.
He also revived old ideas and theatrical projects from the Roman and Capri period (1915-1918), such as stage sets and theatrical costumes, as is the case with this floral Ballerina, distantly reminiscent of the experience of 'Il Canto dell'Usi-gnolo ' by Stravinsky, from 1917, unfortunately never staged.
On the basis of this drawing, again in 1948, Depero also created an oil painting, exhibited in 1985 at Mazzoleni Arte in Milan ("Depero. From early Futurism to the Fifties", curated by Giorgio Ferrari, 23/4-18/ 5/1985)."
