Providing export certificate. Gian Paolo Cavagna (Bergamo Bergamo 1556- 1627), he completed an apprenticeship in the Bergamo workshop of Cristoforo Baschenis. In its production we can trace many stylistic influences from artists from the Venetian school, such as Tintoretto, Titian, Bassano, and Veronese, from whom he learned the techniques Mannerist and artistic tradition of Cremona and Brescia, from which he was influenced by the emotional charge of nordicizzante mold; not least were the new artistic orientations products from Spanish rule in Northern Italy, as yield object and interest in the luministic values. The first commission that reported him as a prominent artist in the art context Bergamo was the '' Altarpiece of St. Giovanni Evangelista '', for the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Bergamo; from this moment on, the artist was asked by several noble families, including the Carrara family, for their palaces decorations. As for the paintings of religious subjects, following the Council of Trent, Cavagna worked as a protagonist for the Diocese of Bergamo, creating new easy to understand religious iconography and compositional rigor. In Cremona, the artist painted an imposing decorative cycle for the Library of the Augustinians, with the help of Orazio Lamberti and Fra 'Sollecito, went unfortunately destroyed in early 800. Also important are the portraits that he left us, albeit in small numbers. The critical evaluation of Cavagna grew in the last quarter of the eighteenth century, thanks to the efforts of critics and connoisseurs as pasta, Francesco Maria Tassi and Angelo Pinetti, attributing to the Lombard painter, a prominent place in the Bergamo painting.
