Auction 470 | ORIENTAL ART Online
Lot 158
The face is realistically modelled with open eyes aquiline nose, beard and moustache arranged around full lips. The earlobes are elongated and effectively modelled. He wears a simple headdress from which curls emerge, elegantly framing his forehead. The anatomical details are particularly accurate; the beautiful movement of the beard and its natural rendering, the wrinkles on the face highlight the Hellenistic influence typical of Gandhara art.
This fusion of cultures is particularly evident in this beautiful sculpture so balanced in its peaceful harmony.
