Notable thankga depicting the bodhisattva Padmapani, here in the meditational manifestation, with red skin, Shristhikantha. Pictured in the standing Samapafa position, is adorned with precious golden necklaces and light multicolored robes. He wears a five pointed crown, featuring on the top a miniature of the transcendent Buddha Amithaba, of whom he is the emanation, and holds the right hand in the varadamudra position, while the left one holds a plant’s shoot, ending in a lotus flower. Behind the character is an intricate background, including forty-five secondary figures, partly surrounded by clouds or green hills. In the top layers are serene or semi-wrathful figures, among which Amitayus, Ratnasambhava,Vairocana, Sakyamuni, Amitabha, Usnisavijaya and Cakrasamvara. In the two side rows are four Yogini with red skin and a semi-wrathful expression, Tara Verde and Vajrapani. In the lower layer are wrathful figures, among which Yama, Mahakala and Palden Llamho. Noteworthy are the long inscription in gold on black at the base of the composition, and the beautiful original frame in rich dark blue brocade, with embroidered silk inserts of Chinese style.
