Auction 355 | ISLAMIC & ORIENTAL ART Traditional
Lot 81
Pair of vases with a typical yenyen shape characterized by splayed foot and neck and central knot, entirely covered with blue color and painted with overglaze golden decoration. This decoration is arranged in rectangular cartouches containing flowers and birds separated by various geometric elements including: fish scales, ice-crack decoration and rhombuses. Kangxi figurative mark painted at the base.
This type of "powder" blue differs from the cobalt blue commonly found on other Qing period pottery in that it is not mixed with glaze. This blue was instead blown dry onto the ceramic body using a bamboo tube ending with a gauze. The object was then glazed, fired and painted with gold.
Measures: 49.5 x 22.5 cm
Starting price: € 3.000,00
Estimate: € 6.000,00 - 8.000,00
