Of great quality in terms of carving and naturalistic representation, this sculpture in the form of a deer was created as an architectural element of a refined Balinese house and was most probably enriched by real deer antlers in the back of the stage. Indicative of the high sculptural skill attained by this unknown Balinese artist is the raised front paw, which lends particular plasticity and pleasantness to the work.
