Nias - Sumatra - Indonesia. Sculpture of an Adu ancestor. Hardwood with natural patina, traces of pigment. Signs of use.
Anthropomorphic sculpture of an ancestor characterised by a large two-pitched headdress, most probably used as an architectural embellishment given the original lack of arms.
Not particularly ancient, this Adu sculpture is pleasing in its carving quality, attention to detail and body proportions. The natural patina retains traces of black pigment that probably covered the whole sculpture.
