Auction 390 | AFRICA, OCEANIA & AMERICA - ARTE AFRICANA, OCEANICA E DELLE AMERICHE Online
Lot 64
This mask of good workmanship in terms of volume and proportions, engraved and decorated with typical colours and accompanied by a dignified patina and signs of use, is not particularly old, but in no way manipulated or artificially antiqued, since the back is intact and the wood is clearly raw and not coloured. This could indicate that this mask may have been used as an embellishment or architectural element of the Korambo, the distinctive communal houses of the people living along the Sepik River in Papua New Guinea.
Measures: 44.0 x 20.0 x 8.0 cm
